Attorney Dr. Maximilian Gerhold is team member of the public law team awarded by JUVE.

Maximilian Gerhold is an enthusiastic specialist in public law. From the beginning of his law studies in Passau and Toulouse, he worked at the Chair of Public Law, Media and Information Law in Passau. In addition to constitutional law, his focus was on the then new General Data Protection Regulation, European data and media law and freedom of information law. He has built up a great deal of expertise in these areas.

He received his doctorate in 2022 with a thesis on „Lawyers’ Professional Practice in the Service of the Rule of Law” at the University of Passau (Prof. Dr. Kai von Lewinski) and the University of Toulouse (Prof. Dr. Aurore Gaillet). The thesis was awarded several prizes.

During his legal clerkship, Maximilian Gerhold also dealt intensively with constitutional and European law. He worked in the Legal Service of the European Commission (Institutions Team), where he was involved in representing the Commission before the European Court of Justice and the General Court in Luxembourg together with Commission staff. He then clerked at the Federal Constitutional Court in the cabinet of Justice Prof. Dr. Ines Härtel, where he deepened his practical experience in constitutional litigation.

He brings these diverse perspectives and experience to advising companies and authorities on public law issues. Maximilian Gerhold joined the OPPENLÄNDER Public Law team as a trainee, then as a research assistant and since 2025 as a lawyer.

Maximilian Gerhold is a member of the Society for Comparative Law (Public Law Section) and the German-French Lawyers’ Association.

Maximilian Gerhold is well versed in all aspects of public law. His expertise includes economic administrative law, constitutional law, and European law. He is particularly proficient in advising companies and public authorities on the regulatory challenges arising from the digitization of government and business operations.

Maximilian Gerhold regularly contributes to German and international journals and books on current issues in public law. His publications are cited by courts in Germany and abroad.

OPPENLÄNDER successfully advises the Hermann Hesse Railway Association in the planning approval process for the reactivation of the railway line from Weil der Stadt to Calw

On behalf of the special-purpose association, Prof. Dr Christofer Lenz, Dr Thorsten Gerhard, Dr Maximilian Stützel, Dr Vera Dörrfuß and Dr Maximilian Gerhold have been providing support over the past few months with environmental and construction law issues relating to the reactivation of the remaining tunnel facilities in Forst and Hirsau.
