idealo has achieved a significant victory against Google in the Berlin Regional Court. The court confirmed that Google abused its market power far beyond the date of the Commission’s decision in order to favor its own price comparison service and ordered the US corporation to pay damages of over €465 million, including interest. This is the first time that a big tech company has been held liable in a civil court in Germany for the consequences of its competition violation on this scale. It is the highest amount ever awarded by a court in Germany for antitrust damages.
