Matthias Tratt grew up in the Bavarian part of the Rhön area und studied in Freiburg im Breisgau. As academic assistant at the Chair for Comparison of Civil Laws at the University of Freiburg he worked in the civil law basic principles research area. He obtained his doctorate with a thesis comparing German and English unjust enrichment and insolvency law. During that time Matthias Tratt also worked in teaching at the University of Freiburg and in particular prepared students there as part of the project “Klausurenklinik” (examination clinic) for the first legal state exam.

Expertise
Matthias Tratt advises German and international entrepreneurs, mid-sized companies and corporations on M&A transactions and complex issues in all areas of corporate law, in particular in the law of limited liability companies, stock corporations, partnerships and associations. One focus of his corporate practice is advising shareholders in shareholder disputes and on restructuring.
As an expert at the intersection of corporate and insolvency law, Matthias Tratt advises creditors, shareholders and corporate bodies in insolvency, self-administration and restructuring proceedings. He also contributes his expertise in this area as a lecturer in insolvency law at the DHBW Stuttgart.
