Clemens Birkert specialises in data protection and IT law. He ensures that the business models of his clients are not only legally secure but also practically feasible.

Clemens Birkert was involved from the beginning in the development of the General Data Protection Regulation, firstly by his research at the Institute for Media and Information Technology and then in legally advising on many major projects on the implementation of the GDPR, including a number of DAX 30 companies in the banking and automotive industries. He has special experience in dealing with IT projects and IT security incidents (including data infringements) and in defending his clients in complex litigation. He also has special industry knowledge in the areas of eHealth, eCommerce, media/press and digitalisation. He also is a speaker in the training program of the German Association for the Digital Economy (BVDW) for AI officers in accordance with Article 4 AI Act.

Clemens Birkert is in demand as a speaker on data protection and IT law subjects and in the area of legal tech. He regularly participates in panel discussions, inter alia, at conferences of the Justice Academy and various hackathons. He is the author of several specialist publications, including as co-author of the Legal Handbook E-Health / Digital Health published by C.H. Beck-Verlag.
