Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence (AI) will fundamentally change the way we work. Digital AI assistants (e.g. MS 365 Copilot, ChatGPT and Google Bard), AI tools for text (e.g. Jasper AI, Copy AI and Neuroflash) or image creation (e.g. Adobe Firefly, Midjourney and Stable Diffusion) as well as applications to support programming activities (e.g. Github Copilot) are attracting growing interest from both private companies and the public sector.

However, AI systems also raise a number of legal issues. The relevant legal framework is in a state of flux. With the AI Regulation (AI-Act), a comprehensive set of European regulations came into force on 1 August 2024 that comprehensively regulates the use of AI for manufacturers, service providers, operators, retailers and users. In addition, German and European law contains numerous regulations that explicitly or de facto relate to the use of AI. Violations are often subject to fines. For companies that want to use AI systems, this results in a certain degree of legal uncertainty.

We provide comprehensive and practice-orientated advice on the development, introduction and use of artificial intelligence. We have cross-jurisdictional expertise and ensure that our clients are optimally prepared for the legal implications of artificial intelligence and can fully exploit the advantages of the new technology.
